The Steering Committee for Collaborative Bargaining for St. Lucie County School District met Thursday, May 1 at the school board offices at 1:30 PM.
Guests present for the meeting were Jay Stewart, District Athletic Director and Carol DeAngelo from Treasure Coast Financial Services.
Subcommittee Reports included a review of the proration calculation for Athletic Supplements and the need to increase the defined workday to 9.25 hours, four days per week, for the summer VPK program. Letters of Understanding regarding both the Athletic Supplement Proration and Summer VPK Schedules have been signed by both parties.
The Insurance Subcommittee reported the recent changes in state legislation regarding 403 (b) requirements. The Steering Committee approved the subcommittee's recommendation to bring to the school board for approval six investment firms that offer 403 (b) investment products for employee contribution through payroll deduction. Upon Board approval all employees will receive written notice of the approved companies, and a Q&A that outlines what employees who are not currently using these companies would need to do if they wish to continue to contribute to a 403 (b) account through payroll deduction.
The Compensation Subcommittee reported tentative agreement has been reached regarding a one-time bonus payment of $1116 before payroll deductions to all non-administrative employees. This one-time bonus will be paid on the payroll following approval by the board and will be paid to employees that are eligible, active, and past their probationary period. The probationary period for CWA and CU employees is 120 workdays, and 97 workdays for CTA employees.
The Subcommittee working on Early Release Days for 2008/2009 reported that tentative agreement has also been reached to use four early release days for professional development for both instructional and non-instructional employees. The remaining ten early release days will continue to be used as recording keeping days. The dates for all early release days have been identified and will be published on the district webpage.
The Evergreen Salary Study is almost completed. Once the results are received they will be presented to the Steering Committee.
The next Steering Committee Meeting is set for June 5 at 1:00 p.m. and will focus on prioritizing issues for bargaining for next year and creating charges for the subcommittees regarding these issues.
